Too Soon was recorded on a laptop in 2009 and released in January 2010. Opening with pop lullaby Knockout, it segues into 15 Certificates (an apocalyptic bounce) and then All The Answers, a love song that’s also about blowing up the world.
Japanese Movies and Fox follow, with driving bass lines and feverish middle-eights (one a techno stomp, the other a messy guitar solo).
The album’s centre-piece is the acoustic-driven Cleveland, a lonely song about love and loss, and then the jaunty Night Crossing kicks in to make it all better. Soft instrumental Always Breathe slows the pace before River’s Edge racks things up a couple of notches with its crunchy guitars and boy/girl vox.
Persona is the schizophrenic epic that should end the album but doesn’t, because the sci-fi/horror movie-inspired Saboteurs does that.
